Customer Reviews

This was my first French press. I have always enjoyed this type of coffee, particular after dinner. However, I was attracted to the plastic framework surrounding the carafe, as I can be clumsy at times.
This press has worked just as well as the more expensive, more traditional looking French press pots. I set the coarsest setting on my Braun grinder, and no grounds get through the screen. It is just perfect. I haven't ever run my press through the dishwasher, it isn't necessary with the easy cleaning with this one. I just put hot soapy water in the carafe, up-and-down a few times with the plunger and it's all ready to use again. I have heeded the warning not to stir with a metal implement; I use a wooden spoon.
I would heartily recommend this model of Bodum for someone who would like to experience French press coffee at home, inexpensively.

I have two Chambord models, and this one. I prefer the features of the Brazil's keyed lid, and secured plastic frame to the Chambord models. I've had this for about 3 years now, use it every day, and it's held up perfectly. Great press.

Customer Reviews

My bride and I have owned probably a half-dozen or so coffeemakers during out 15-year marriage. We both love coffee in the morning, and we like to have it piping hot and ready when we rise. We've had some very good coffeemakers and owned a variety of brands and models. But all but two had one major Achilles' heel - a glass carafe. However hard we might try, those glass carafes always got broken. And when they got broken, the unanimous refrain from stores and manufacturers was: "Sorry, we don't offer that version anymore." So, it was a new coffeemaker or nothing.
We also owned one of those fancy units with an insulated carafe. Well, at least for the unit we bought, that cuts two ways. Yes, the coffee inside is insulated from the frigid winds of our kitchen. It is also effectively insulated from a warmer (which the unit did not have or, obviously, need). Now I can tell you that, with the possible exception of the most secret research bowels of NASA, there is no insulated carafe in the universe that is as effective as a warmer unless one consumes one's coffee very quickly.
Not only does this unit make great coffee, there is no carafe to break Or wash Thank you, thank you, thank you Hamilton Beach. We love it.
One caveat: when the user's manual tells you to regularly descale the unit, do so. Else the machine will get sulky and simply refuse to brew your coffee. It's probably unionized, who knows, but it does effectively sit down on the job. Now the manual has been fine tuned by an attorney and recommends descaling monthly. Given the levels of dissolved mineral in our water, we descale once every six months and all is fine.

I have been using the Hamilton Beach 47665 BrewStation Plus 12-Cup Automatic Drip Coffeemaker for about six months. I purchased it because a colleague was raving about how much she loved hers and my current coffee maker was on its last legs. I have to say that, in the beginning, it was a match made in heaven. I loved everything about it: there was no coffee pot, the coffee was piping hot, and it was just fun to use. Now I hate that water drips on my counter whenever I open the top, the first cup of coffee is tepid, and it takes forever to get the coffee because the flow is now reduced to a dribble (no matter how many times I clean it the recommended way). This morning, when I got no coffee at all, was the final straw --it was full and ready to go and just didn't brew. I cleaned out the tank really well and was amazed and sickened by the amount of black "gunk" that came pouring out (remember that I have religiously cleaned it the recommended way). I did an internet search and realized, yet again, that it certainly pays to do homework before buying an appliance. This coffee maker has many, many, many enthusiastic reviews by new owners but just as many, if not more, reviews by long term owners that are quite negative. My advice: pass on this coffee maker and keep looking. And if anyone stumbles across a reasonably priced, good, dependable (over the long haul) coffee maker that makes hot coffee...I would love to hear about it.

Customer Reviews

Ok, I have owned thermal coffee makers before, so I am used to how they work. If you have any issues with the lid, read the manual and do not complain about it. These reviews about how the lid is not easy to work and that the coffee spills all over is purely based on people who are lazy, and/or do not follow directions. If you simply close the lid all the way before you brew, NOTHING will spill and all of the coffee will go into the carafe. Also, if you need extremely hot coffee when you drink it, then preheat the carafe with hot water before you brew the coffee. If not, your coffee will still be pretty hot, but not scalding like normal warming plate coffee makers. By the way, warming plate coffee makers always overcook the coffee and make it stale 99% of the time. I prefer a bit less hot coffee where the taste is still in tact. The coffee tastes wonderful in this coffee maker, and is just as good as most of the $100 to $199 coffee makers. This thing is very compact, and not as tall as other thermal coffee makers. The brew process is slower than other coffee makers, but this is how it should be. You want the full flavor of the coffee, not just a hint of it with boiling water added. Not all things need to be so expedient. Waiting for a nice cup of brewed coffee in this machine is worth it. But if you cannot wait and need it right away, set the timer and wake up to hot coffee waiting for your drinking enjoyment.
So in a nutshell, if you have never owned a thermal coffee maker, read the directions. If you have problems with the lid or the temperature not being 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, don't buy it. However, if you are not a lazy person, am able to wait 5 minutes instead of 2, and know how to line up arrows on a lid......this coffee maker is for you!
I love this coffee maker, and it does an excellent job. The coffee is very robust and flavorful. The machine is very quiet, and works exactly as it is supposed to. The temperature of the coffee is very hot, and is still quite hot after adding a refrigerated creamer to it. I have no qualms with this machine, and the price is perfect for what you get. Please take this review for what it is worth, for I am a very educated coffee consumer. I have owned numerous coffee machines, and this is right up there with the best of them. No, I do not work for Mr. Coffee is case you were wondering :-)

This is probably one of the less expensive coffee makers with a stainless steel thermos pot. This makes for MUCH better coffee-- it does not become muddy as does coffee that is constantly warmed.
During winter months, the thermos pot keeps the coffee good and hot for over an hour, acceptably hot for two hour maximum, after that it will keep it warm for hours (but will need a shot in the microwave). Of course, if the pot is left full, it will keep it hot for about 3 or 4 hours. It does even better in the summer. You need to let hot water sit in the pot first to warm it up a bit (this will help the coffee to stay warm longer).
There are two flaws to the machine:
The hot water comes out of a wand which has to be moved to remove the coffee basket. If you do not get the filter in "just right," the water will hit the back of the filter and push it down...and grounds get into your coffee. This is a real nuissance; I tried "double filtering," but the final solutoin is to buy a permanent (screen) filter (they cost less than $4 at a grocery store).
The spring loaded "pause" feature can drip a lot.
There are a few other issues (like putting on the lid) that might be a bit of trouble at first, but after a week or so it becomes second nature. This is no issue.
I am not disappointed I bought this product; it makes for GOOD coffee, and after buying the pemanent filter, I am especially well-pleased; but the manufacturers need to do a better job of consumer testing. The design flaws are obvious early on.

From the Manufacturer
The Cuisinart DCC-2600 14-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker
The Quest for a Perfect Cup of Coffee
It is generally agreed that there are four basic elements critical to the perfect cup:

Element 1. Water:Coffee is 98% water. Often overlooked, the quality of the water is as important as the quality of the coffee. A good rule of thumb is that if your water doesn’t taste good from the tap, it won’t taste any better in your coffee. That’s why Cuisinart has added a water filter to the 14-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker. The charcoal water filter removes chlorine, bad tastes and odors, for the purest cup of coffee every time.
Element 2. Coffee:While the bulk of the liquid is water, all of the flavor should be from the coffee. To achieve the same great quality of coffee you receive at a coffee bar, you need to use the same quality beans. Buy the beans fresh and whole, only about a two weeks’ supply at a time for maximum freshness. Once the coffee bean is broken, its flavor degrades very quickly. If it is not practical to buy small supplies, we recommend you separate larger amounts of beans into one to two week portions immediately after purchase, and freeze them in airtight containers. The best way to maximize freshness is to minimize exposure to air, light and moisture. So, once removed from the freezer, beans should be maintained in a sealed container at room temperature, since damaging condensation occurs every time the beans are removed from the freezer or refrigerator. Note that some coffee experts advise against freezing dark-roast beans, because freezing can cause the oils to coagulate. Other experts disagree. We suggest you experiment and decide yourself.

Element 3. Grind: The grind of the coffee is critical for proper flavor extraction. If the grind is too fine, over extraction and bitterness will result. Too fine a grind may also clog the filter. If the grind is too coarse, the water will pass through too quickly and the desired flavors will not be extracted. A medium-fine grind is recommended.
Element 4. Proportion:Coffee that is too strong or too weak is always a disappointment. Add 1 level scoop of ground coffee per cup and adjust the amount according to taste. Note: the maximum capacity for ground coffee is 17 tablespoons for the 12-cup coffeemaker. Exceeding this amount may cause overflow if the coffee is too finely ground.
Features and Benefits
  1. Reservoir Cover: Flips back for easy filling.
  2. Water Reservoir with Water Level Indicator Window: Open the reservoir cover by lifting it up. Pour in the desired amount of water using the water level indicator located at the side of the coffeemaker window.
  3. Showerhead: Distributes water evenly over coffee, reducing temperature loss as water passes through grounds.
  4. Charcoal Water Filter: Charcoal water filter eliminates chlorine, calcium and bad tastes or odors from tap water. Cuisinart recommends changing the water filter every 60 days or 60 uses – or more often if you have hard water.
  5. Filter Basket: Holds a 4 paper filter or a permanent filter.
  6. Control Panel:

    1. On/Off Button, Clock display, Hour and Minute Buttons.
    2. Strength Selector: Regular and Bold buttons let you choose the intensity of coffee flavor you prefer.
    3. Carafe Temperature Knob: For controlling the temperature of the coffee after brewing. There are three temperature settings high, medium and low.
    4. 1- to 4-Cup Setting: The 1- to 4-cup setting button is used when you make small amounts of coffee. Normal coffeemakers will produce a colder batch of coffee when smaller amounts are made, because the heater doesn’t have enough time to properly ‘warm up’ to heat a small amount. The 1- to 4-cup setting basically ‘double heats’ the water, making your smaller amounts as piping hot as a full pot would be. To use simply press the 1- to 4-cup button on the control panel after turning on the unit.
    5. Self-Clean Setting: Tells you when it’s time to clean your coffeemaker. Remove built-up calcification from the water reservoir, to help extend the life of your coffeemaker.
  7. Function Knob: Includes Program, Auto On, Auto Off, Brew, Clock and Audible Tone: Coffeemaker can be programmable to automatically start brewing up to 24 hours in advance and can be programmed to shut off up to 4 hours after brewing. The Audible Tone signals the end of the brew cycle with five beeps (coffee will continue to stream from the filter for a few seconds after the tone).
  8. Brew Pause: Stops flow of coffee from basket when carafe is removed (30 seconds max) from the heater plate, so a cup can be poured in mid-brew. Since the flavor extraction rate varies during the brew cycle, we recommend allowing the brewing cycle to finish before pouring the coffee. The coffee brewed at the beginning of the cycle has a flavor profile which is very different from the flavor at the end of the cycle. Once the coffee has finished brewing, stir it before serving to blend the flavors. The coffee at the bottom of the carafe will be somewhat stronger than the coffee at the top.
  9. Carafe: The easy pour, no drip 14-cup glass carafe has an ergonomic handle and brewed coffee markings for two to fourteen cups.
  10. Adjustable Heater Plate: Allows you to keep brewed coffee at desired temperature. Scratch resistant with black, nonstick coating.
  11. Cord Storage
  12. Power Loss Backup System: One minute protection in case a breaker trips, the unit is unplugged, or the power fails. It holds all programmed information, including time of day, auto on time and auto off time.
  13. Measuring Scoop

Customer Reviews

This is a replacement for my old Cuisinart coffee maker which I had for about six years or so (the predecessor to this model). I loved my old one even with some of the little quirks it had. It beat out any Braun or Krupp pot which I had ever owned. This new updated model is a winner. All of the small annoyances have been solved, such as the small fill tank opening, the dripping cover that leaked back into the fill tank, and finally, thank you Cuisinart people, a water level guide on the outside of the unit. The front knobs on the front are now also easier to see and use. As my other Cuisinart did, it brews superior coffee and quickly. I find it takes about one minute per cup... 12 minutes for twelve cups, not bad at all. Yes, the unit does make some clicking and popping noises when it is new, so did my old one. But that goes away in time as the unit gets "broken in". I do not think you can find a better coffee maker on the market.

We take coffee very seriously in my house and when our old Cuisinart broke I wasn't sure I wanted another. But they fixed the design problems (hard to pour the water without spilling, no visible water gauge) and it makes great coffee. Highly recommend it.

Customer Reviews

I have very limited counter space and need a coffeemaker with a small footprint. Unfortunately the choices are mainly between a 4 cup pot or a 10-12 cup pot. There are very few manufacturers offering coffemakers that brew 6-8 cups, and if they do, the price is high and/or the footprint is as big as the larger ones. This and a few other models offer 5 cups. Keep in mind that the stated cups are only 5 oz. cups, so a 5 cup coffeemaker yields about 3 real life cups of coffee. I have tried most of the black and decker 5 cup models over the years, but this particular Mr. Coffee model is superior. It makes hot delicious coffee and does not drip when you pour it. It also comes with a permanent filter which is nice to have in case you run out of paper filters. I came here today to order another one as a backup, but the price went up from what I paid. Still a good deal, but I guess I'll check again after the holidays since I don't desparately need it.

for $18 this little guy is great! it makes enough coffee to fill 2 standard size coffee mugs. when i say normal size, i mean normal people size. not some mr. thermos 24 oz.
makes great coffee, is easy to clean, came with a mesh filter and one that actually works. i have a burr grinder and set it on medium and i get no leakage of grounds.
so, for the cost of 3 non-fat, sugar free, carmel swirl, blah, blah, blah machiattos i now have a coffee maker that brews up 2 cups of coffee for all of about 30 cents (if that).
the only down side of this coffee maker is that i now drink way too much coffeeeEEEEeeee! :)

Customer Reviews

Some have commented in their reviews that the coffeepot drips, that the pot itself is difficult to remove and replace into its alcove, or that the coffeemaker spontaneously turns on. I value the consumer reviews posted here and usually heed them, but I loved the look of this coffeemaker so much and could find no other brands to match the styling and features of the KM1000 that I decided to risk it and order. So far, I have experienced none of these problems, and have been very happy with my purchase. The Krups KM1000 is a great little coffeemaker that not only makes a great-tasting, piping hot cup of coffee but looks good while doing it. Programming is easy and the price is right. My only fault with Krups is that not even a sample pack of cone filters was included with the coffeemaker as a courtesy, so be prepared with size 4 cone filters if you want to start brewing out of the box.

This coffee maker was love at first sight. My husband and I used it once a day every day, and it made very good coffee. The coffee maker had to be unplugged every other day and it was very easy to set up the clock. The blue light was a little bit too much (it used to illuminate the whole kitchen at night) and although it didn't bother us it stop working after three months, which we didn't mind. We don't know if the clock stop working by the third month as well, but after five months of use the electrical system completely failed, this coffee maker stop working. I consider this unacceptable for such a simple appliance.

Ideal for both everyday use and for entertaining, this 1500-watt countertop appliance brews one fresh cup of gourmet coffee, tea, or hot cocoa at a time. Not only does the single-cup home-brewing system ensure the freshest results (no more bitter coffee sitting in a carafe, going more bitter and stale with each minute), but it also makes it possible to customize drinks, since one guest might prefer regular while another decaf or hot tea after dinner. The unit uses patented K-Cups, which offer over 200 varieties of pre-measured gourmet coffee, tea, and cocoa from a wide range of premium brands. It can also produce hot water for making hot cocoa from a packet or for use in cooking. When ready to brew, simply open the lid, insert a K-Cup, close the lid, and select a cup size from its one-touch control panel, which comes with a user-friendly blue backlit LCD display. Five brew-size options include a 3-1/4-ounce iced beverage, small 5-1/4-ounce cup, 7-1/4-ounce small mug, 9-1/4-ounce large mug, and an 11-1/4-ounce travel mug. After setting the digital clock, the unit can be programmed to turn on at a pre-determined time, which avoids having to wait the four minutes for it to heat up; it can also be set to turn off automatically from one to nine hours later for energy-saving convenience. The machine also allows for choosing the standard brew temperature from 187 degrees F to a hotter 192 degrees F. Other highlights include a blue-lit removable 60-ounce water reservoir (holds up to 10 cups), a descale indicator, a removable drip tray that allows for easy cleanup and the use of travel mugs, and dishwasher-safe parts (the K-cup holder and funnel). Housed in a sleek, award-winning design, the single-cup brewing system measures 13-4/5 by 10-2/7 by 13 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews

My wife's Christmas present this year is a Keurig B70 coffee maker. We have a B100 at work that I was very impressed by and we decided that a home machine would nicely fill the need when we might want a cup or two, but might not want to make a full pot.
Long story short: we love the machine. So far, our favorite coffee is Timothy's Kona Blend -- but we haven't tried more than a handful of the scores of varieties of coffees and teas available for the beast. We got the extra filter for when we want to grind and use our own coffee in the machine, but have not yet had the opportunity to try it yet. It is a nice option to have.
We'll still use our Zojirushi thermal carafe brewer when we need a full pot, but the Keurig is wonderful for lesser amounts. Highly recommended.
I learned today that one of the coffee roasters that supplies the K-cups, Green Mountain, just bought Keurig (an American company with a Dutch name). I hope this won't limit the variety of coffees available for the machines -- that would be a major bummer if other roasters bowed out and would cause me to pull my glowing recommendation.
UPDATE 7/30/07: The B70 died today after 8 months of yeoman service. A call to Keurig revealed that the symptoms matched a "bad element" (one would assume heating element). A replacement machine in on its way (arrival in 3-4 days). Keurig doesn't want the old machine back, just a part. Keurig customer service was extremely pleasant and professional. Assuming the replacement machine arrives in good form, the five star rating is intact. I do wonder if there is a generic problem with heating elements in this model -- I'll have to look through the newer reviews to see if I should worry.
UPDATE 1/12/11: The replacement B70 is still going strong 3.5 years later. Still very happy with the unit.

I recently purchased the new Keurig B-70 Gourmet Single Cup Home Brewing System that was released on October 1st, 2006 and have been very happy with it. The machine is extremely well designed, simple to operate, aesthetically pleasing, and most importantly, brews an excellent cup of coffee. I am very impressed with how quickly it is able to brew a cup of coffee, the selection of brew sizes, and how simple clean up is.
There are a variety of single cup brewers on the market now, many utilizing pre-packaged coffee "pods" for brewing. Personally I was not comfortable purchasing a product where I would be locked into the selection and pricing of a specific manufacturer, or one that would only brew coffee and not tea and cocoa. This is just one area where Keurig really shines above their competition.
Keurig has gathered support of a variety of gourmet coffee, tea, and cocoa manufacturers and there currently there are over 140 different types sold pre-packaged in K-Cups including Green Mountain, Diedrich, Gloria Jean's, Timothy's, Van Houtte, Tully's, Coffee People, Newman's Own, Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow, Twinings, and Ghirardelli. Not only is there a large selection to choose from, there are a variety of resellers online offering K-Cups, and pricing is extremely competitive.
In addition to the pre-packaged offerings, Keurig offers the My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter allows you to use your own gourmet ground coffee in your Keurig home brewer. This option provided the extra level of comfort I personally needed to make the jump into a single cup brewer. Frankly I don't find myself using it very often as I had originally thought, as there are so many options available in pre-packaged K-cups.
The pricing of the Keurig brewers are extremely reasonable, and brews gourmet coffee in just a fraction of the cost of purchasing it from a Starbucks, Coffee People, or similar. I expect that my machine will pay for itself in savings in just a couple months of use.
The only suggestion I have for Keurig is that the My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter be included with the sale of the brewer, and not an optional accessory. It is such an inexpensive accessory that I am surprised it was not included. Overall the Keurig brewers are excellent value and quality and would recommend them to anyone interested in a single cup brewer.
